About the Authors

Claus Vogt

Claus Vogt is known in Germany as one of the few analysts who clearly predicted, well in advance, the global market declines of both 2000–2002 and 2008–2009.

In his 2005 German bestseller, Das Greenspan Dossier, also co-authored with Mr. Leuschel, Mr. Vogt wrote: “When the U.S. real estate bubble bursts, it will not only trigger a recession and a stock market crash, but it will endanger the entire financial system, especially Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.” With that sentence alone—plus their constant reminders throughout the 2005 book—the authors gave readers an unambiguous forewarning of the housing bust, the worst recession and stock market crash since the Great Depression, the near meltdown of the entire financial system, and the virtual demise of America’s two mortgage giants.

Mr. Vogt’s financial market career spans two decades—first as a financial consultant with the London division of Merrill Lynch, and more recently as the Research Director and strategist for an independent German bank, which, thanks largely to Mr. Vogt, was one of the few to make money for its clients during the financial crisis. He is currently Managing Director of Aequitas Capital Partners, an asset management firm serving institutional and individual investors.

Mr. Vogt is editor of Sicheres Geld, one of Germany’s largest circulation investment newsletters, and also writes a regular weekly column in Money and Markets, reaching over a half million U.S. and international readers. He graduated with a degree in business and economics from the University of Frankfurt am Main.

Roland Leuschel

Roland Leuschel, who began his career over a half century ago, has been one of the most highly respected stock market analysts in Europe for over thirty years, known both for his strongly bullish arguments prior to major rising markets and his equally strong crash warnings before nearly all major bear markets since the early 1980s, earning him the title of “Crash Prophet.”

He has degrees in engineering and economics from Karlsruhe University and in economics from the Free University of Berlin. Mr. Leuschel is a regular columnist for several international finance publications, including Börse Online, Germany’s leading stock market publication. His prior books include not only Das Greenspan Dossier, which warned readers about the U.S. housing bust and financial crisis, but also the 1984 European edition of The American Idea—Growth is Our Future, co-authored with former congressman and Housing Secretary Jack Kemp.
