Welcome to Money and Markets

Martin D. Weiss, Ph.D.
Martin D. Weiss, Ph.D.

Money and Markets is the culmination of eight decades of hard work and research, beginning when my father, J. Irving Weiss, first went to Wall Street in 1926.

Fortunately, Dad didn’t get caught in the crash of 1929, mainly because he was skeptical of the market’s rise, but also because he didn’t have the money to invest. His parents were recent immigrants to America, with barely enough to keep food on the table.

Nevertheless, Dad was so confident the stock market was going to fall that he borrowed $500 from his mother to short stocks. By the time the Dow hit rock bottom, he had made close to $100,000.

That’s also around the time he turned bullish, buying GM, AT&T, General Electric and Sears with both hands. On the next trading day, they turned sharply higher and just kept going.

But in my view, Dad’s most memorable success was helping to keep his clients and friends safe. He got them out of banks before the banks failed in the 1930s. And later, he was the first to create a special kind of money market fund that invested exclusively in safe and liquid Treasury bills.

Martin and Irving

As I was growing up, Dad was not only a good father, but also a great teacher, mentor, and partner.

In 1972, he encouraged me to take over the family business, and I founded my own company, Weiss Research, Inc.

A quarter-century later, he passed away. But he has left a great legacy of knowledge and wisdom for me and my entire company.

Today, we publish this free daily investment newsletter, Money and Markets, with the same devotion to quality, service and ethics that my father first brought with him to Wall Street over eight decades ago.

Every morning, you will have our up-to-date insights on what we feel is really driving the stock market, oil, energy, gold, investing and the economy. Plus, we tell you where they’re going and what you should do about it.

Money and Markets Team

On Mondays, I give you my views on the big-picture forces that are shaping the world.

On Tuesdays, Nilus Mattive brings you the latest news on dividend stocks and fresh, new ideas on how to profit from them — with protection against market declines.

On Wednesdays, it’s Tom Essaye’s turn, with a focus on contrarian investing and how to find undervalued stocks.

Ron Rowland is a widely regarded expert on ETFs and mutual funds. Thursday is his day to bring you his insights on how you can make the most from these tools.

Friday is the day to turn your attention to real estate and interest rates. Despite their vital impact on your finances, these are two markets that too many investors misunderstand or ignore. Mike Larson, one of the first to warn of the housing market boom and bust, tracks these markets daily and gives you his analysis each Friday morning.

Saturday is for Jack Crooks’ insights on foreign exchange — the largest market in the world and the only one where there’s always a bull market (in at least one currency).

Sundays are usually for hot news and our services. I pick out the single trend that I think is the most important, and I tell you which of our services I feel can best help you profit from it. Use this weekend edition to stay in synch with the hottest news events. And if you wish, transform these situations into profit opportunities.

Equally vital to our Money and Markets team here in Jupiter, Florida are Amber Dakar, dedicated to personal finance and investor education … as well as our guest editors, Larry Edelson, Sean Brodrick, Tony Sagami and Rudy Martin.

Just remember that I don’t tell other editors what to think or what to write. Each bases his or her views on independent research that’s often in synch with mine but sometimes not. We all agree, however, that in any scenario, there’s money to be made.

No matter what the future may bring, the Money and Markets team will be there for you every day to give you the support you need to protect and grow your wealth — in good times and bad.

Good luck and God bless!

Martin
